Salem CRIBBAGE CLUB: storming the tournament !

Thanks to a field of only 13 and a fabulous run of cards, the Gabridoodle is the 2015 City of Salem cribbage champion.  The Townie came in second, so we can truly say the Salem CRIBBAGE CLUB dominated the event !

21 Jul 2013: pickup game in the Highlands

The spirit of Pamplona ?  Anne de la Mouffette took the initiative and organized a pickup-game at the inimitable Highlands Clubhouse.

The Pink Queen and her consort the Townie brought the big cribbage board, but as they say in chess, the threat is more powerful than the execution.  Since the weather was no longer horrendous, the action took place on the Clubhouse patio.  The games proceeded with the usual zaniness and occasional confusion.  The steel pegs were not employed this time but Anne de la Mouffette's bling pegs were pressed into service.

The Baltic Princess was kind enough to bring burgers which were expertly grilled by the Townie.

Around the time the burgers were being served, the Pink Queen and the Gabridoodle took a break from the cribbage action for a chess game that featured an amazing double rook snaffle.

The heat of competition was so intense that after leaving the Clubhouse, the Gabridoodle engaged in a burping contest with two children in the Pink Queen's minivan.

In attendance were:

     the Gabridoodle
     Anne de la Mouffette
     the Baltic Princess
     the Pink Queen
          and her consort the Townie
               and two of their offspring

Oliver, the CLUB mascot, monitored the action from inside the Clubhouse.  The Gabridoodle roared at him numerous times and was roared back at in return.

1 May 2013: My, those pegs are big !

We finally came out of late winter hibernation for a predictably zany evening of pegging at Mouffie's clubhouse.

The Townie had in the past spoken of possessing an enormous board.  As it turns out, this wasn't just a shaggy dog story.  He and the Pink Queen brought it and its enormous pegs -- they aren't steel, but at this size, who cares ?

Because we had seven attendees, Crazy Joe wasn't able to indulge his craving for an eight-player game.  So there was an every-dude/tte-for-himself game that required the use of three, count 'em, three boards.  Despite his occasional directional confusion, the Townie managed to win that game, though Crazy Joe, the Baltic Princess, and the Gabridoodle were close behind.  Incredibly, nobody was skunked.

In attendance were:

     the Gabridoodle
     Anne de la Mouffette
     the Baltic Princess
     Crazy Joe
     la Marmotte
     the Pink Queen
          and her consort the Townie

Oliver, the CLUB mascot, made a brief appearance.  The CLUB commander remarked on his poorly brushed state.

21 February 2013

20 Feb 2013: "I'm blowing my nose, you jackass !"

Despite the absence of our stern disciplinarian Black Rose, CRIBBAGE CLUB enjoyed an evening that, while zany, wasn't quite as out-of-control as last time.  Nevertheless, the Rabelaisian humor came out after a reference to a mini-panther stirred something deep within the Baltic Princess.

The Pink Queen was unstoppable, being on the winning side in nearly every game she was involved in, often with skunkage involved.  The fear lurking behind her consort's impĂ©rial was palpable.

The Gabridoodle and la Marmotte continued their sugar packet war.  One of his well-timed (and aimed) assaults elicited a cranky, "I'm blowing my nose, you jackass !"

Fortunately, nobody broke la Marmotte this time.  The ginger liqueur had a definite mellowing effect.  The Gabridoodle's avoidance of caffeine before the event clearly helped, as well.

To keep that pressure cooker called Crazy Joe from exploding, we capped off the evening with a couple of goofy eight-player games.  The traditional blue and steel pegs were used.

In attendance were:

     the Gabridoodle
     Anne de la Mouffette
     the Baltic Princess
     Crazy Joe
     la Marmotte
     the Pink Queen
          and her consort the Townie
     the Queen of the Bluff

Oliver, the CLUB mascot, was kept under lock and key.  There were concerns that he would intimidate the CLUB's shorter members.

23 January 2013: post-malaria cribbage bash

As usual, a hearty thanks to Mouffie for making the Clubhouse available.

Thanks to the 1.25 liters of Coca-Cola™ (they didn't have Dr. Pepper™) he consumed immediately before being chauffeured to the Clubhouse, the Gabridoodle was completely out-of-control.  The white chocolate popcorn, while tasty, didn't help matters.  Eventually, the Gabridoodle managed to break la Marmotte ! It got so bad that she wound up crawling on the floor.  We therefore hope that the Black Rose, a stern disciplinarian, will attend our next event.

The eight attendees split up into two groups of four.  While la Marmotte was being broken at one table, the other table was dealing with mustaches and mathematical difficulties.  Later, the entire group gathered for a goofy eight-player game overseen by Crazy Joe.  The Cribbage Gods showed no favor to the steel pegs.  The use of LL Bean playing cards did, at least, add an outdoorsy touch.

26 Sep 2012: birthday bashes and goofiness

Our thanks go to Mouffie -- well and justly known as the hostess with the mostest -- for making the Clubhouse available for the evening's bash.

Not only did we have the usual cribbage action, some of it goofy, but we were celebrating Crazy Joe and the Townie's birthdays in true hipster fashion... With cupcakes !

Better still, our non-smoking live mascot, Oliver, made the rounds, again and again and again.

To mix things up a bit, and at the risk of angering a certain cap'n, we introduced Kings Cribbage to CRIBBAGE CLUB's repertoire.  A chest-puffing Gabridoodle beat The Pink Queen, her consort the Townie, and Little Rhody.
